This is not a question there is an easy answer to. Keep a few things in mind, planned breedings, successful or failed pregnancies, the number of puppies in a litter, how many people are already on the wait list, and a host of other factors makes this an impossible question to answer. Once you are on the wait list, we will be in touch with you and you will have a good ideas of all the variables involved and where you stand.
GREAT question. The Boerboel is not a dog for everyone. PERIOD,
A well bred Boerboel is a stable, confident dog. But it is also an extremely powerful and complex guardian breed, which requires discipline and firm leadership.
This is not a dog for first-time dog owners, or people with no experience with guardian breeds.
A good Boerboel owner is someone who is prepared to educate themselves about this breed. You need to be able to be a calm leader to the dog, and to commit themselves to lifetime training and care. We all get lazy and the Boerboel WILL let you know that you have'nt been training him or making him obey his commands the first time.
In addition to the general responsibilities required with Boerboels, think hard about the lifetime financial commitments of owning such a large dog. Food, supplements, Food, medical care, Did I mention Food? lol -
We work hard to match our dogs with the right homes and deciding whether a Boerboel is the right breed for you, for your sake the dog’s sake. This is, after all, a LIFETIME commitment.
VERY. I can NOT stress this enough.
Health testing is critical for breeders and the costomer and should never be ignored when asked for proof of testing.
Dogs can still have health problems even when the parents and their ancestors have all been health tested and passed health tests. But statistically, the incidence of health issues will be greatly reduced if proper health testing is conducted.
Our testing includes hip, elbow, heart health, & HCC.
We make sure our "pairs" are compatible thru testing as well, this helps to minimize any genetic problems as well. (HCC can practically be eliminated thru proper testing and breeding!)
We believe in total transparency and share test results with anyone who wants to see them (soon to be posted on the website). ALSO, new puppy owners are provided all test results as well as the vet they use.
We will NEVER breed any dogs without successful health testing results. Period.
Whether you buy a dog from us or elsewhere, ask to see the health certifications of at least the parents of the litter, and potentially other ancestors in the pedigree if possible. Never take a breeder at their word alone. Sadly, we heard too many stories of breeders who have skipped health testing, often with tragic endings where pets suffered and/ or had to be euthanized. This causes such unnecessary heartache.
There are many good breeders out there who feel as we do. Please, do your research, make sure you are getting a healthy puppy from healthy parents. Please.
Remember, these little pups, soon to be big pups, are counting on us all to do the right thing by them.... We promise to always do our part.
