To ensure its natural guarding and protection instincts as well as its dedication to family remains the same today as it was so many years ago.. To produce the next generation of Boerboels with a balance of health and stable temperament, dedication to family, calm demeanor around livestock and animals, as well as a good nature with children, and so much more”..
We are sure you have heard that, or some form of it, on many websites. It's YOUR job to decide who really is doing that - and who is just saying it. I can tell you, as breeders, we ARE 100% vigilant to ensure the future of the Boerboel Breed.. Not to just ensure our dogs look like a Boerboel, but our dogs also need to act like a Boerboel should (and that takes the right dogs, time, testing, and perseverance).

We don’t leave our dogs (or pups) in a kennel all day, and we certainly don’t leave puppies in a kennel while waiting to be shipped. Our puppies spend time with us in our home. They play with each other and the big dogs in our very own Boerboel Fun Park. They are loved, socialized, and exposed to many new sights, smells and sounds.
We can arrange delivery of your pup (often doing it ourselves). We have many programs up and coming that will be available as well (keep an eye out!)
Your pup will be registered, micro chipped, have their puppy shots done AND all their health testing paperwork (and parents) will be forwarded to your vet in preparation of their arrival.

When our Females are ready to give birth - it's all hands on deck. We have a team of professionals on hand and ready to help. Most of the births are performed via c-section as it is much easier on the female and puppies. Some may think it is easier on the breeder this way, to schedule the delivery. That is not true. A little known fact is, if a c-section is performed at the wrong time, if the date is missed by even a day, you can lose the entire litter. So, it is NOT ever about the breeder, not at Kentucky Bluegrass Boerboels anyway. Here, at Kentucky Bluegrass Boerboels It is ALWAYS about the dogs. What is best for them. When our female is ready to give birth, we make the decision - natural or c-section. This is not a decision taken lightly, a lot of planning goes into this and of course all the tests we have run also gives us much needed health data to make our decisions.
Once the little ones are born, they are cleaned up, weighed and then they will be put into a nice warm Incubator. Our incubator is kept warm with the help of tgi lighting (heat lamps have been known to burn puppies so we do not use them). We also pump in pure oxygen and make sure the humidity is set just right. Our puppys thrive in this environment (and of course with momma).
We start early interactions and neurological simulations with the puppies. Before a week old they will have had their tails docked (if requested) and dew claws removed. While the puppies are busy growing and exploring their new world, we will also be busy introducing them to many new sights and sounds. They will go for car rides, play with other dogs, meet farm animals and hear the roar of a tractor starting up just to name a few. We will practice patience (they will have to sit for a reward of being petted) and we will even introduce them to the concept of going potty outside. All the while, communicating with the new owners of their puppies progress; sending the occasional photograph and answering as many questions as they have. All of these socialization and development activities may sound like alot, and it is time consuming - BUT - it is absolutely the difference between our puppies and some of the other puppies. Early socialization and manners is never a bad thing with a Boerboel.
Our puppies are vet checked, wormed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, temperament tested and extensively socialized before they go onto their new forever homes. All pups will be registered with NABBA
